Meet Our Founder
Shamika S. Carter is a dedicated gerontological nurse whose passion for elder care was sparked in her hometown on the Westside of Indianapolis. Raised in a Christian family and actively involved in Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, her values of faith, service, and community laid the foundation for her career.
After graduating from Ben Davis High School in 2001, Shamika pursued CNA training at Ivy Tech Community College, then began her healthcare journey at Methodist Hospital. While working, she furthered her education at IUPUI, earning a degree in Public Health with a concentration in Healthcare Administration in 2010.
Her career advanced at the Department of Veteran Affairs at the VA Medical Center Indianapolis, where she initially joined as an Administration Student in 2008. By 2010, she secured a fulltime position in the Patient Care Services & Nurse Recruitment Office, overseeing VA Nursing Staff's time and attendance.
Shamika's dedication to nursing led her to Marian University Nursing School in 2012, where she obtained an Accelerated Bachelor's Degree in Nursing by 2014. She then worked on a Medical Surgical Unit at the VA Medical Center before transferring to the Primary Care Clinic, focusing on Geriatric Primary Care.
Certified in Gerontological Nursing (GERO-BC) and Ambulatory Care Nursing (RN-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Shamika is deeply committed to advocating for seniors, ensuring their dignity, independence, and quality of life. Her caregiving experience, particularly with her grandmother, has deeply influenced her career, instilling a passion for making elderly patients feel seen, heard, and valued.
Outside of her professional life, Shamika cherishes time with her family, especially her grandmother Joyce, sharing moments of shopping, dining, and reminiscing about her childhood. Shamika S. Carter's life and career are a testament to the impact of compassionate care and the importance of family and community in shaping a fulfilling path in geriatric healthcare.
